"A set of the Minister of Agriculture draft regulation on principles and criteria of the new ISPO is expected to be completed by the end of this August, " Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture at the Coordinating Ministry of Economic Affairs Musdalifah Machmud said, Tuesday (25/8/2020) as quoted by Katadata.

Earlier, the Ministry of Agriculture said that the regulation would make it mandatory for plantation companies and farmers to be ISPO-certified in five years after the Presidential Regulation came into force at the latest, which would be in 2025.

"We will introduce a regulation to go through with Perpes 44/2020, " Director General pf Plantations at the Ministry of Agriculture Kasdi Subagyono.

The Perpres 44/2020 specifically focuses on the organization; acceptance, market competitiveness, and participation; mentoring and surveillance; and sanctions.

According to Musdhalifah, the Perpres will improve ISPO certification standard and procedure, focus on deforestation, peatlands conversion, and greenhouse gas emissions, as well as establish a more credible monitoring mechanism. Perpres on ISPO also reaffirms its commitment to traceability principles. ***
